BC & T Consultants aiming to work with more Tees Valley clients

A
multi-disciplinary engineering and design consultancy operating across the globe has Teesside at heart .
BC & T Consultants provides process , mechanical , civil , structural and electrical , control and instrumentation engineering services to the process and petrochemical industries across the UK and beyond .
Yet , despite operating from its Ash House home in Thornaby , having moved there last summer after 20 years in Redcar , the ambitious 38-year-old business wants to secure more work locally .
BC & T Consultants has successfully forged a reputation internationally for delivering on huge multi-million-pound projects , including designing , engineering and project managing the largest LPG ( liquified petroleum gas ) mound at Richard ’ s Bay in South Africa .
But bosses feel now is the right time to lead on more contracts closer to home .
Joe Melville , general manager , said : “ Our plans and targets are to support our local area and provide our services to Teesside , together with creating jobs for local people .
“ We recognise there is a lot of work in the area with upcoming projects . We would

like to support those projects as a local engineering firm .
“ We want to make sure we are involved in boosting the socio-economic benefits to the North-East as a whole . We will be supporting the future projects of Teesside .”
BC & T Consultants recently completed its latest project at a site on Seal Sands and that was extremely satisfying for a workforce proud to be from Teesside .
Joe added : “ Even though we are still completing projects in this area , we know there are others around the area who still aren ’ t aware of us and what we do .
“ Everyone in our office , all our employees , are local people , so to be part of the future for this area is something we are striving for – it ’ s nice to know as a business you are putting something back .”
Three former engineers – Richard Birdsall , Ronald Campbell and Donald Thompson – founded BC & T Consultants in 1986 and were involved in the development of Boulby Mine , North Yorkshire .
Early projects include the development of the first rock caverns in limestone before quickly developing into projects in above-ground storage and fuel terminals , which has carried through to where BC & T Consultants is today .
Joe , who joined the company eight years ago as a chartered engineer , said : “ We are nearly 40 years down the road as an employer in the Teesside area , which is a great achievement for the company .
“ We are operating from new premises in Thornaby where we have created a great environment for everyone to work .
“ We moved here from Kirkleatham Business Park to benefit our current and future employees and to assist with future plans we hold for the company .”
BC & T Consultants is looking to grow further in the months ahead and there will be three new apprentices starting this summer , studying engineering degrees .
Joe said : “ It is about growing our own and it ’ s exciting . We are effectively adopting a two-pronged approach to our recruitment because while looking at the long-term , we want to bring in capable and competent engineers in the short-term .
“ While we are proud of what we have achieved as a business spanning almost four decades , we have seen over the last year more recognition in the North-East and we want that to continue .
“ That helps us when it comes to recruitment and attracting the right people for our jobs .”
BC & T Consultants has more international projects on the horizon . Much of the company ’ s work has been gas projects in sub-Saharan nations and across Africa . There have also been various fuel storage facilities projects in the UK .
BC & T Consultants provides concept , feasibility , FEED and detailed design engineering services .
It engineers , procures , installs and commissions on projects , using in-house 3D laser scanning technology and software packages to create 3D models to assist in the execution of designs .
The firm will then oversee the build , as it has done recently done in Qatar , Mauritius , South Africa and across the UK .
