Globetrotter – Tricore ’ s digital operations manager Emma Bass recently undertook a 12,100-mile round trip to Taiwan .
The information about a specific asset is placed in a tracking system where a client can literally access and touch a tag on a mobile phone app . That will take them straight to the CORE platform where the information is stored .
Paul Bass , Tricore ’ s digital and commercial director , said : “ We have tagged about 4,000 assets in Taiwan and all the information is on our platform . The assets are branded and recorded with information such as purchase orders , stock codes , all the inspection certifications … all in one place .
“ There will be instructions on how to maintain each asset and , crucially , the location of each asset is tracked , stating the last person who had them in use .
“ This solution is all about achieving quality assurance and compliance because a significant amount of time and money can be wasted by companies not knowing where their equipment is .
“ To explain our solution in even simpler terms , a company might need a test certificate to show their harness is compliant . They would normally have to go to the office or email for a serial number . They might even have to ring the shop where it was purchased .
“ With this solution , the information is already at the tip of your finger . You can literally touch a piece of kit ’ s tag on your phone and all the history of its life is there in front of you .”
Tricore have realised that lost or underutilised equipment , missed maintenance schedules and the sheer time spent locating assets , can drain your company ’ s resources and bottom line .
The Stockton-based company ’ s state-of-the-art platform , enhanced with Radio Frequency Identification ( RFID ) technology , transforms the way every asset of a business is track managed and optimised .
Paul said : “ Whether you are a small business or a large enterprise , the aim of Tricore ’ s platform is to grow with you . “ Since our recent visit to Taiwan the platform has been adopted by a company ’ s head office in the UK and their equipment has been distributed out to sites all over the world including in Singapore , USA , France and Netherlands .”
Tricore ’ s focus is designed to make organisations more efficient and effective for the long term and their growth recently led to the hire of more operational and admin staff .
As well as equipment and tagging asset management , the Core platform offers fixed asset management in a similar manner .
Tricore can capture all asset data , key performance indicators and metrics through a single digital platform , tracking and tagging assets such as machinery or switch panels . That works in line with the LiDAR digital twinning scanning service .
Previous Tees Business features have highlighted how Tricore generates a digital twin of large assets while capturing the asset and maintenance information associated with those buildings .
Paul added : “ As well as being able to tap a piece of machinery to bring up its essential information , we can link that to our 3D twin of a building . We are getting a lot of interest in that and we are looking at jobs in India , Argentina … all over the world .”
Tricore has been successful on its second Innovate UK project , part of the government ’ s research and innovation push , and hope to have completed this second project by the end of the year related to twinning and VR .
The purpose is to drive efficiency in construction and offshore projects by utilising digital twinning , virtual reality and AI .
Paul said : “ We are already proud of what we have achieved and we want to keep growing . For example , we have already done a full VR cable jointing module .
“ We went to Denmark , scanned an asset , we took all the point cloud data and built a full VR digital twin and the proportions are within 10mm of reality .
“ The people on site can then put the VR headsets on and joint the cables . That is being used on vessels now in the middle of the ocean before they go onto the wind turbine .
“ We have also done a full scan of Teesside Airport and we have scanned five UK train stations too . This works everywhere .”
