AM Recruitment reflects on 10 years supporting local businesses

Teesside ’ s AM Recruitment is celebrating 10 years in business with an important contract win - beating 43 other companies in a successful tender process for work with a major international organisation in the service and utility section .

Confidentiality agreements mean the company ’ s name will remain anonymous - and at AM Recruitment , discretion comes with the territory - but it is a sign of its growing reputation and capability that it beat all-comers .
“ We were delighted to secure the contract ,” says Dan Hanafin , who together with his friend and colleague , Paul Tutill , joined AM Recruitment in 2014 with a firm focus on construction and engineering recruitment .
“ It ’ s an exciting contract to win but one of the things we took from it was that our tender was judged better than more than 40 other companies working in the sector .
“ We ’ ve come a long way in the past 10 years .”
Back then , the company primarily involved Dan and Paul working out of a small office in Billingham ’ s Grange Business Centre .
Ian Morrison joining in 2016 as management accountant proved to be the catalyst for change that saw the company really begin to take off .
Ian is now managing director of AM Recruitment , having taken the post in 2019 , and has overseen significant growth into multiple sectors .
The company now boasts clients regionally , nationally and globally with people placed from Singapore to the Falkland Islands and from Africa to America .
But most of their work is done across Teesside and the broader North-East where their local knowledge is invaluable and their database of clients and contractors runs deep .
Paul and Dan weren ’ t novices when they arrived at AM Recruitment - both had extensive experience working in the sector . But they did spot the chance to offer something different , especially in the Tees Valley where investment , jobs and industry were starting to surge into the area .
Having grown up in the region , both were fully aware of the potential of the place and its people and have been proud to contribute to Teesside ’ s developing workforce and its skill set .
Dan leads on white-collar recruitment , Paul on blue-collar and they have an able management team supporting them .
Andrea Willey and Lucy Gladstone offer both operational and financial aspects to the business , with head of client relationships , Jamie Pell , helping build the company brand .
Sister company AM Training , launched by Jamie in 2022 , covers statutory requirements for businesses and beyond , while identifying skill gaps in individuals and organisations and crafting tailored training programmes . Their employability division supports unemployed people into work , spearheaded by their head of education and training , Kat Finlay , and the rest of the management team .
“ It ’ s very rewarding to provide opportunities through our training to increase people ’ s self-esteem and change their lives for the better ,” says Jamie . “ They become more employable , and our results speak for themselves , or become more of an asset to the company they are already working for .”
Recruitment remains the core of the company ’ s work with big-name companies such as MGL Group , Nissan Trading , Ramboll and Bulk Tainer Logistics among the leading users of their services .
AM Recruitment ’ s reputation for excellence and trust is partially founded on the range of expertise and accreditations that it boasts .
The ISO9001 guarantees quality and compliance of the highest standard while Cyber Essential protects against most cyber-attacks and these two accreditations , taken together , mean AM Recruitment can work with public sector companies .
The SBS Net Zero Programme , REC , Construction Line and being a gold ARCA member also gives them expert and ethical credibility .
As a proud , Teesside-based company , AM Recruitment has invested in giving back to the community and has been active in local charity work .
Those supported include Cleveland Boxing Club , Teesside Airport Foundation , MFC Foundation , Maxi ’ s Mates , Fishburn Community FC Ladies Team , Roseberry Park Under-11s FC and the Armed Forces Covenant .
