Family firm ’ s drive to deliver outstanding care gives Moonrise many reasons to celebrate
Caring couple – John and Jessica Gwaringa have built Moonrise to now employ a team of 300 staff .

A

passion for delivering high quality care has seen award-winning Moonrise go from strength to strength .
Jessica and John Gwaringa are looking forward to celebrating the 10th anniversary of the business this year , after drawing on their experiences as nurses and carers to form Moonrise .
And with a recent Good rating from the Care Quality Commission ( CQC ), there are plenty of reasons to celebrate .
“ The feedback we have had from the CQC is that our care is very good and we wouldn ’ t settle for anything less ,” says Jessica , who adds her interest in the care sector goes back to childhood .
It ’ s an interest she has passed on to her son Keith , who was just nine when the family decided to open their own business – and came up with the name , Moonrise
The firm now has a number of buildings , including training centres and supported living accommodation , with significant amounts of profits being reinvested into growing the business further .
As well as providing carers and nursing staff on Teesside , Moonrise also covers Birmingham and has recently opened a centre in Scotland .
Jessica , who has worked as a carer , a nurse and a care home manager , turned one care home from having an inadequate rating to being a Good provider within a month .
She says : “ Care is our passion and we wanted to carry on working in a sector we had a keen interest in .
“ We looked at what we could do as a family business and decided to start a care agency .”
The firm now provides nursing and care staff to care homes , domiciliary care clients and within supported living settings .
“ We have started to get a lot of work in private hospitals as well ,” Jessica says . “ It ’ s a family business . Me and my husband John run the business and we ’ re both nurses . John looks after the financial side and I look at the care aspect .”
The significant growth of Moonrise has also seen the firm move into transport services for the care sector .
“ We provide professionals able to offer support in areas like complex care needs , children ’ s services and supporting young people and adults with autism ,” Jessica says .
“ We understand there are a lot of shortages out there in care and we can provide a solution to that issue .
