Aircraft painting specialist is latest big name to be welcomed to Teesside Airport ’ s Business Park – and hopes are high that many more will follow

Teesside International Airport ’ s Business Park is one of the region ’ s most exciting developments taking place right now , providing unique airside access in a world-class business destination .

Teesside ’ s local airport has long been a supporter of local , national and international businesses and – since being brought back into public control in 2019 – has invested in its land and assets to create a significant and attractive location for multiple sectors .
Companies are already taking advantage of the airport site , with FedEx , Willis , Draken and more all going from strength to strength thanks to their bases at Teesside ’ s hangars .
The airport also recently welcomed global aircraft painting firm Airbourne Colours , with Teesside International developing a 27,000-sq ft hangar to help it deliver work for airlines such as EasyJet , Jet2 , Loganair , TUI and others . This £ 6.5m investment will create up to 40 jobs .
On the airport ’ s £ 200m , 2.8m-sq ft Business Park South , the first cutting-edge unit is now under construction – with planning consent awarded for the next phases of this vast site . There are highquality , grade A industrial development opportunities across 270 acres south of the runway , ideal for sectors including aviation , logistics , manufacturing , life sciences , laboratory , green energy and data storage .
These all benefit from airside access if required – and the advantages of being based within the Teesside Freeport .
The under-construction Unit D is the first of four units which together will cover 130,000 sq ft . Like all the developments to come , the principle behind the 25,105-sq ft facility has been to provide a loose-fit base
Plan – A CGI of the sprawling Teesside International Airport site .
build to each unit , with a plug-and-play approach to meet individual requirements .
This has been established with an understood base performance that can be enhanced by an uplift in material choices , as well as bespoke elements of fit-out to suit individual tenant needs .
But what about the future ? Plans are underway for units that are double , 10 , 20 and even 40 times the size of the current Unit D , fully flexible and suiting the needs of future tenants .
Phase 1B , which currently has outline planning consent , will comprise three units , two of 250,000 sq ft and a further 50,000-sq ft unit , ahead of further buildings in the masterplan , which will top out at one million square feet .
Planning permission for Business Park South as it is now envisaged was secured from Stockton Borough Council in November 2022 , after various levels of consent being granted throughout the years . The principle of significant development at the airport was established in 1999 with the government granting outline planning permission for various freight uses .
Subsequently , 70 hectares at the south side secured permission for 1.9m sq ft of these logistics , distribution and industrial buildings , as well as new road access from the A67 .
A Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method ( BREEAM ) pre-assessment has been carried out for the development , with a potential to achieve an Excellent rating based on current targets , exceeding the 70 per cent threshold and beyond the local policy requirements of a Very Good rating .
Businesses coming on to the site will benefit from the airport ’ s net zero strategy , ultimately benefitting from its solar farm – currently in the pipeline – to provide zero carbon uninterrupted on-site electricity supply .
Teesside Airport is also set to become home to a permanent hydrogen refuelling station for tenants using low-emission hydrogen fuelled vehicles , after the government awarded £ 8m of funding .
With the airport playing a part in the region ’ s development of sustainable aviation fuel , businesses will be on the ground floor to take advantage of these opportunities , too .
Direct access to the Business Park South has been established via a convenient milelong link road off the A67 .
The road , Mynarski Way , celebrates Andrew Mynarski , who was based at the airport during the second world war . He is the only Canadian air gunner to receive a Victoria Cross , awarded for his bravery trying to rescue his trapped Lancaster Bomber crewmate when their plane went down over France in 1944 .
All this means that businesses of any size , across some of the region ’ s key sectors , can be guaranteed to get flying by joining Teesside Airport ’ s growing offering .
