PHOENIX 2 RETAIL ( Hartlepool )
The boss of a vape distribution firm that achieved a soaring turnover increase of 1,900 % has been explaining how his company achieved such success .
From humble beginnings in a small Hartlepool office , Phoenix 2 Retail now supplies major UK grocers , including Tesco and Sainsbury .
And according to CEO and founder Chris Kelly , it was seeing an opportunity that started the ball rolling .
He told the audience at the Wynyard Hall ceremony : “ Traditionally the industry was led by big tobacco companies who ’ d always done everything one way – delivered the same type of products and told the customers they didn ’ t need to deal with anyone else .
“ Coming from the other side of the table , I knew there was a huge part of this industry where no one gets spoken to – the supermarkets , the big wholesalers etcetera .
“ We decided not to go with a brand but to help get those brands who were never going to get in front of these customers the opportunity to present these products .
“ We then built on that by installing fixtures or furniture – walk into any Morrisons in the country , for example , and you ’ ll see a piece of our furniture that stocks these products .
“ Then we stepped out from behind the curtain a little bit by starting to lead the industry with recycling schemes , testing programmes and the ability for consumers to recycle .”
