OUR PROGRESS

Net Zero Teesside
Investment : £ 1.5bn + Jobs : Up to 4,000 during construction alone NZT Power aims to be the world ’ s first commercial scale gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage capability and will help drive Teesside ’ s aim to become the UK ’ s first decarbonised industrial cluster as early as 2030 . The proposed power station will generate up to 860 megawatts of low carbon electricity – enough to power up to 1.3 million UK homes . Up to two million tonnes of CO2 emissions from the power station will be captured each year – emissions which would otherwise be released into the atmosphere . The project could add up to £ 300 million to the economy per year . Remediation of land has started this year . Commercial operations target 2027 .
SeAH Wind Offshore Facility
Investment : £ 450million Jobs : 2,250 total The world ’ s largest factory for the manufacture of offshore wind monopiles , the huge steel tubes that form the foundations of the construction of offshore wind turbines . Construction started in July 2022 and , when complete in 2024 it could produce up to 200 monopiles per year for offshore wind farms such as Dogger Bank .
Circular Fuels Ltd ’ s Renewable Gas Facility
Investment : £ 150million Jobs : Up to 300 – 50 direct , 250 indirect This facility will take non-recyclable waste from households and industry , converting it into renewable dimethyl ether ( rDME ). This safe , cost-effective and clean-burning fuel can be stored in cylinders to decarbonise properties not connected to the UK ’ s national gas grid . When operational 2025 , it could produce up to 50,000 tonnes of fuel per year .
Willis
Willis Lease Finance Corporation ( WLFC ) and subsidiary Willis Sustainable Fuels ( UK ) Limited are developing proposals for a multimillion-pound refinery at Dorman Point . The Power-to-Liquid refinery will convert feedstocks derived from industrial waste CO2 and green hydrogen produced from renewable electricity into aircraft fuel . This is seen as a key way to deliver substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation industry .
Energy from Waste Project
Investment : Approx £ 300m project Jobs : 40 permanent roles The Tees Valley Energy Recovery Facility is a large-scale energy from waste plant involving a number of North East councils . Several hundred jobs could be created during construction with 40 permanent posts when open in 2026 .
