FIRMS THANKED FOR ‘ FANTASTIC ’ SUPPORT

The Power of Women campaign ( PoW ) is £ 2,500 better off thanks to a donation from the Tees Businesswomen Awards .

Nearly 400 people attended the awards ceremony , which was held at the end of September in Hardwick Hall ’ s Grand Marquee and organised by Tees Business in association with Middlesbrough College Group .
And thanks to online donations and an envelope draw on the night , the event ’ s chosen charity , PoW , emerged with an extra £ 2,500 in its coffers .
It ’ s the third year PoW has benefited from the awards night , with the 2023 event bringing the running total to £ 7,400 .

Students get helping hand to build up their careers with launch of new project
Construction students at Middlesbrough College are set to get a helping hand to build up their careers after a new project was launched .
The Future Female Leaders Programme is a long-term project being organised and run by the National Association of Women in Construction ( NAWIC ) and campaign group Power of Women ( PoW ) for students at Middlesbrough College .
The scheme aims to help young women embarking on careers in construction and related sectors with a series of events , workplace visits , talks and mentoring sessions to encourage and support their workplace ambitions and give them additional skills to those they ’ re learning on their courses .
The project was launched with an introductory session where Middlesbrough College students got to hear from women from a number of the construction sector companies across the North-East involved in

Claire Preston , PoW head of operations , said the project had come about after discussions with NAWIC on how the two organisations could work together towards common goals .
“ This is about showing people what is possible and giving this group of students support and encouragement along the way , above the practical skills they learn on their courses ,” added Claire .
STEM INSPIRATION Schoolchildren from across Teesside were given insight into the wide variety of careers available and how the things they buy make their way into the country during a trip to PD Ports . The visit by 22 children from five schools was part of PD Ports ’ National Inclusion Week events and supported by Power of Women and Spark Tees Valley .
INNOVATION ZONE Ambitious proposals to develop a care and health innovation zone in Stockton have been given a stamp of approval .
The vision sets out proposals to create a nationally significant cluster of social care and health provision at Teesdale Business Park and the nearby Tees marshalling yards .
If realised , the proposals will transform the area , developing the 110-hectare brownfield site into a home for social care and health services , sector-specific businesses , research , teaching and learning facilities and housing .
DISCOVER CARE The NHS and social care employers are recruiting across Tees Valley and looking to attract people of all ages and aspirations .
That ’ s the message from Discover Care , a new campaign that aims to promote the wide variety of career opportunities in health and social care , showcasing the sterling work of Tees Valley professionals already working across the sector and who hope to inspire others .

UNIPRESS APPRENTICES A six-year Tees-Wear partnership that puts young workers on the road to a successful career has recorded its highest ever intake .
After September ’ s new 20-strong cohort , Hartlepool College of Further Education and Sunderland-based car body parts company Unipres ( UK ) are currently training more than 60 apprentices .
Among those to regularly make the trip up and down the A19 wearing recognisable blue uniforms – in a training bus laid on by the college – is the first ever female to qualify as a junior engineer at Unipres through an apprenticeship .
