Interiors business hopes impressive contract wins will lead to more success
A
fast-growing internal refurbishment business is getting ready for an incredible new year after landing its biggest contracts to date . When WCS Interiors was launched in 2020 , business partners Jack Marsh , Andy Carter and Nathan Liddell had big plans to work on major projects .
And after a successful first few years , the ambitious Teessiders are excited about what 2024 might hold after building a successful working partnership with Merit , a huge player in the offsite construction industry .
Merit supports the government ’ s hospital expansion programme to provide facilities faster , more effectively and sustainably through its offsite construction approach .
And WCS has been instructed to help with the fit-outs of certain projects – and the Thornaby-based company hopes more work will follow because of the quality of service provided .
Jack said : “ We have recently started work as a subcontractor for Merit , a huge construction company who have a lot of contracts with the NHS from the ground up .
“ We have just completed various works on a healthcare facility in Falkirk , and the feedback has been superb on the quality of our work , communication and planning .
“ On the back of that we potentially have other work in the pipeline . It ’ s an exciting time for us all .”
Ambitious – WCS is looking forward to a prosperous 2024 following recent successes .
WCS is effectively creating hospital bathrooms inside steel pods being built at the Merit factory in Cramlington .
The WCS team works in the pods to plasterboard , clad , lay flooring , fit ceilings and hang the doors , for example . Once completed , the pods are transported elsewhere in the country where they are clicked into place for the plumbing and electrics to be connected .
WCS is tendering for further work , and hopes recent successes are merely the start and will lead to the green light for more . It represents a huge step for a Teesside company that is proud to develop local talent .
Jack said : “ We started out as a small company doing minor refurbishments a lot smaller than we are doing now .
“ On the back of those we started doing

hospital works , by completing the odd ceiling here and there . That led to work on hospital wards and beyond . We have also carried out large projects on Teesworks , a massive player in this area .
“ Everything is following an upward trajectory and going in the right direction at the moment . Turnover is increasing year on year and we are adding more staff in the field and in the office .
“ We are growing in a very good way . To be securing contracts with the clients like we are means we can then invest in the area and our people to build the business .”
Jack ’ s background in sales has given WCS a corporate feel from the start , complementing the experience in other areas that Middlesbrough-born partners Andy and Nathan brought .
WCS has grown quickly and this year included a move from the Boho Zone to Thornaby Pavilion , where Jack feels the business is well placed to keep growing .
He said : “ Behind the shopping centre at the Pavilion we are making the most of the warehouse spacing . We have taken that on and segregated the area into offices , a storage area and a workshop .
“ We cover everything from electrical , plumbing , dry-lining , joinery , decorating , flooring – everything . We look at all kinds of projects and we aim to do everything right every time .”
