Training – TRL Group is committed to taking on new apprentices , with another 12 in the pipeline .
Sky high – The firm recently won a long-term contract with a leading global energy supplier .
“ There is a huge amount of investment coming into Teesside over the next 10 years and TRL Group want to be involved in these ground-breaking projects .
“ We ’ re looking to establish ourselves as the ‘ go-to ’ company on Teesside and in the UK for our line of work – structural steelwork , rigging and lifting and fabrication .”
Through sensible planning and achievable growth , TRL Group is expanding throughout the globe and has worked on projects as far afield as Morocco , Dubai , Calgary , Algeria and Houston .
Thanks to a reputation that has spread far and wide , the ambitious Tees firm was able to win its latest blue riband contract ahead of larger companies . But TRL Group won ’ t be taking its eye off the ball in the UK .
“ Even though TRL works all around the world , we still want to expand our presence in the UK and especially on Teesside ,” says Steve .
“ We have already been involved with some of the biggest projects in the North- East , working on Tees REP ( renewable energy plant ), Woodsmith Mine and as principal contractor for Huntsman here on the Wilton site .”
In addition to keeping his valued customers happy , Steve is equally committed to looking after his workforce , and it ’ s no coincidence that the new HQ has a Wellbeing Centre .
TRL Group employs a significant number of Teessiders , many of whom progressed through the firm ’ s training centre . In fact , on a recent project in Scotland , around 70 per cent of the company ’ s workforce were Teessiders . That figure rose to around 90 per cent on a major project that took place on Teesside .
The growth in the workforce is matched by further investment in new talent and Steve is committed to offering an increasing number of apprenticeships as orders continue to arrive in the in-tray .
“ We ’ ve increased turnover and profit over the last number of years , that ’ s key to expanding the workforce ,” he said .
“ The main part of any company is the staff . If you don ’ t have a good workforce , you can ’ t achieve your aims . If you can ’ t achieve your aims , you can ’ t grow .
“ If you can grow , you can win bigger and better contracts , which is what we ’ re doing . Although a lot of that success does come down to good management and the way we provide a quality service , you can ’ t do that without a good workforce . Primarily , the spine of this company is Teesside born and bred .”
Looking ahead , Steve adds : “ The main thing is to follow our strategic plan with regards to expansion and carry on as we did last year . Last year was a big year of growth for us .
“ We also want to start another dozen apprentices . One of the things we ’ ve looked at is that for every big project we undertake , we ’ ll include new apprentices on it . We ’ ve started our own apprentices before , and they ’ ve served their time with us and are still with us .”
