Eye-catching – Hologram displays are part of Durata ’ s design service strategy .
Durata recently strategically opened up a bespoke unit on the Cleveland Trading Estate in Darlington alongside global multi-discipline IMS Energy to ensure it can build its own modular buildings .
Recruiting a design team on Riverside Park has allowed Durata to strengthen the business further , with its engineers ensuring regulations and standards are met in building services and data centres .
They examine electrical and mechanical systems in buildings and workplaces , ensuring they deliver a healthy and safe environment for building occupants ’ safety and welfare , providing business continuity through consultations with its designers .
John said : “ We have wanted more than a piece of paper to show people . Clients who are investing significant amounts of money should see more about what we will do for them , and we are going to provide a visualisation of that .
“ It is that final piece in the jigsaw of our full turnkey offer . I wanted the design team in-house .
“ We also have the modular solutions site based at Darlington . People said to me that you can build those ten-apenny . But which company can design , specify , manufacture , commission and install those modular buildings ? There was no answer .
“ I have always wanted to give a potential customer more added value at the tender stage , to give them confidence that we can undertake a project , no matter the size .
“ Now that detailed quotation we have designed , specific to them , can be turned into virtual reality , either 3D or holographic , and then we will undertake the job . Once we have got to that stage you will not need to tender for work , people will come to us as the go-to business .”
That concept-to-completion model was shown in further detail in the design team ’ s office , where senior design engineer Gary displayed a 3D virtual view of the Durata HQ , pool table included , as an example .
He said : “ John asked us to calculate the lighting for the new office and I surveyed the building . We felt it was worth doing the whole office using lighting design software to make sure we comply with everything .
“ Having done that , we can now use it as a promotional tool . The virtual view of the office is an example of what we can provide as a design package , a visualisation for future clients .”
The virtual and holographic development means Durata has a unique additional aspect to its offering , with an already proven track record in the traditional building services area . Paul , the business development manager , said : “ Our service is there to make clients constructing new or updating buildings aware of the regulations that have been in place for some time . We need to ensure clients comply with all aspects of the Health
& Safety at Work Act and Building Regulations .
“ We are working in the education , health , residential and hospitality sectors . With the holograms we are enhancing one aspect of how Durata traditionally works , which is to assist in the design of modular data centres .
“ We will be the people specifying everything to a client ’ s requirements . It ’ s like a Grand Design and we are coming up with a visual outcome of what it will look like .”
Thomas , the principal design engineer , was working on a 3D modelling of a client ’ s specification for a modular data centre and suggested “ it is about meeting expectations ”.
No matter how much money a client is willing to invest , Durata ’ s design team will adjust its visual creations to highlight how much power and data can be secured by slightly tinkering before the tender stage .
John , excited about what comes next , said : “ We are turning a customer ’ s dream into virtual reality before it eventually becomes actual reality . We are certain clients will be impressed .”
