Baines Jewitt director Trevor Cook explains : “ Baines Jewitt has built an excellent relationship with P + HS Architects over the last 37 years .
“ We ’ ve been on hand to support the firm in evolving from a partnership into a limited company in 2004 , assist with pre-year-end planning and setting up an Enterprise Management Incentive Scheme to provide tax-advantaged share options for directors and shareholders .
“ It ’ s been exciting to watch P + HS Architects grow . We ’ ve been there to celebrate their successes and sense of achievement and help mark major milestones , their numerous design awards and the opening of new offices .
“ We ’ ve also been by their side for more challenging times , such as keeping the business running smoothly throughout the pandemic . That meant major investment in new IT systems and specialist drawing software to enable employees to work from home and keep project schedules on track .”
Chris Dennis , managing director of P + HS Architects , says : “ I work with a great team of directors and fantastic staff and although P + HS has excellent in-house systems to support its architectural ambitions , skilled technical staff and a practice manager who looks after dayto-day functions such as financial , legal , HR and insurance matters , Baines Jewitt provide an extra layer of professional

support and objectivity when needed .
“ As well as standard audit and accountancy functions or tax strategies , Baines Jewitt work with us to help propagate ideas and check the financial viability of any potential business adjustments .
“ We also like Baines Jewitt ’ s personal approach and attention to detail , which not only helps P + HS Architects in the present time but enables us to be fit for further growth in the future .”
P + HS MD Chris has been an influential member of the management team since its early days . As a partner in the practice , he was instrumental in establishing the Leeds office in 2001 and became a director in 2004 when the practice incorporated as a limited company .
Chris has a reputation for delivering high-quality , cost-effective solutions against budget and technical viability , as well as satisfying the practice ’ s high design standards and is a passionate champion of technical excellence and buildability .
“ P + HS Architects ’ philosophy states that successful buildings are all about people , including those who commission , use ,
design or construct them ,” explains Chris . “ By encouraging open communication and creative thinking with our clients , coupled with our knowledge and experience , we aim to produce buildings that are pleasing to look at , perform well and meet present and future needs .
“ From our very first healthcare commission for a new GP surgery in County Durham in the late 1980s to one of our most recently completed schemes , the new Northern Centre for Cancer Care in Carlisle , P + HS Architects is proud to be part of the ongoing improvements to healthcare environments benefiting staff , patients and visitors .
“ Despite our success so far and a healthy forward order book , we do not intend to rest on our laurels . Just as the buildings we design are aspirational , flexible , energy-efficient and sustainable , we aim to apply those same principles to our own business model too , so we can build on our success . And we hope Baines Jewitt will continue to be by our side to help and advise us when needed and share in our success for many more years to come .”
