TRL is a strong , independent , ambitious company with more than 30 years ’ experience of servicing the engineering construction industry , covering all aspects of steel erecting , rigging , lifting and site services for projects both in the UK and overseas .
Founded in 2008 by managing director Steve Smith , TRL has steadily grown and continues to expand , with quality and customer satisfaction at its heart .

As well as its head office at North Tees Industrial Estate , Stockton , TRL also boasts a modern 7,500-sq ft training centre . The firm has ECITB , OPITO and LEEA accreditations , is FAPL accredited and has achieved the quality standards of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001:2008 and BS OHSAS 18001 and 45001 .
With projects ranging from 26 tons to 5,500 tons , TRL is specifically audited on the provision of steel erecting and training and consultancy for rigging and lifting and associated services .
Recent projects have seen involvement on MGT Teesside , Tees Renewable Energy Plant and Anglo American ’ s Woodsmith mine where , with a team of primarily local tradesmen peaking at more than 100 workers , it erected thousands of tons of complex steel structures safely and effectively .

Once it had cemented a reputation as one of the UK ’ s leading rigging and lifting training facilities , TRL set about establishing itself on the international stage .
The firm then went through the process of gaining approval to run the ECITB International Training Competence in Engineering training programme .
This allowed it to expand and it now has a global reach through its ICE ( ECITB : International Competence in Engineering ) training programmes and assessments .
“ The projects we have undertaken internationally have been incredibly successful ,” says Mr Smith .
“ From our Teesside base we have far-reaching partnerships delivering training and personnel across the world . We have successfully delivered training programmes in Ghana , Morocco , Algeria , Dubai , Kuala Lumpur , Miri , Calgary and Houston .
“ All our personnel are fully qualified instructors who have spent years in the field building up their expertise in their specific discipline .
