The Heartbeat of the Midwest Section PGA

For more than two decades , Shannon Johnson has been the epitome of dedication and passion within the Midwest Section PGA . Starting as an office administrator in 2003 , Johnson ’ s journey with the organization has been nothing short of serendipitous .
After a career in long-term care , most notably working with Alzheimer ’ s patients , Johnson found herself at the doorstep of the Midwest Section PGA , thanks to a timely suggestion from her mother ’ s friend , Judy , Midwest Section PGA bookkeeper at the time . Little did she know this job opportunity would shape her life in unimaginable ways . “ I interviewed with Jon Jacobson [ the former executive director of the Section ], and the rest is history ,” Johnson fondly recalled . “ This job was meant for me .”

From initial administrative duties to overseeing tournaments , accounting , and foundation work , Johnson ’ s role quickly expanded to COO . Her commitment to the organization and versatility in handling various responsibilities have cemented her as an invaluable asset within the Midwest Section PGA .
While Johnson ’ s golf journey began later in life , her early exposure to the game during childhood laid the foundation for her love of golf . Her grandparents , living at Pomme de Terre , introduced her to the game , sparking a passion that continues to flourish today .
With an educational background in Social Gerontology and a slew of professional experiences , Johnson brings a well-rounded perspective to her role as COO . Her tenure at various educational institutions and her journey to earning a master ’ s degree in Social Gerontology from the University of Central Missouri equipped her with a unique skill set that has been instrumental in shaping the future of the Midwest Section PGA .
Apart from her core responsibilities , Johnson juggles multiple hats within the organization , handling everything from newsletters and websites to coordinating section meetings and recruiting volunteers . Her love for working with people and her unwavering spirit make her an essential pillar of the Section .
Beyond the office walls , Johnson ’ s life is a harmonious blend of family , leisure , and personal growth . With a loving husband and three grown sons , Johnson cherishes every moment spent camping , fishing , dining out , golfing , and traveling . An upcoming anniversary trip to Ireland with her husband underscores her zest for exploring new horizons .
