FACING THE CUSTOMER

By turning your whole body towards the customer rather than just your head you show that they have your complete undivided attention. If your body is turned away from the customer they may feel like something is distracting you, leaving them feeling unimportant.

NODDING

Nodding is an amazing way to non-verbally show your interest in what someone is saying, it shows that you're paying attention to them. It is a good way of showing you're understanding what the customer is saying without interrupting them to let them know.

However, you must be aware that although occasional nodding shows the customer you're paying attention, if you overdo this and are nodding too often it will show impatience and the customer may feel they are being rushed. This will not make for a good customer service experience so you must be aware of your body language and how you use it.

This is particularly important when a customer is expressing stong emotions or feelings to you, for example, if they're angry or upset. Leaning forward will show the customer that you really want to hear what they have to say and you are trying to undertsand their feelings.
