The MCU sorting device ensures high efficiency even during unattended shifts thanks to the orderly palletisation of cut parts.

an automation system that would guarantee production continuity regardless of the operator." In this regard, too, Salvagnini has proven to be a reliable partner: the system is so reliable that we are considering adding an unmanned night shift. Do you have any idea how wonderful it is to find pallets of cut semifinished products, regardless of size, neatly stacked and ready to be bent in the morning?" Lucarini states with satisfaction. " Already today, with our two traditional shifts, the Salvagnini system has allowed us to move two operators from the pallet unpacking and sorting stage to other operations, eliminating any possibility of error and inefficiency in internal distribution and logistics."
30 % INCREASE IN PRODUCTIVITY " Speaking of concrete benefits," Lucarini continues, " even though not much time has passed since the system was commissioned, we ' ve already seen an increase in productivity of approximately 30 %, partly due to the improved performance of the cutting machine, but also to the higher efficiency of the MCU sorting device. Sorting remains, to date, a technology we are still learning about: we work by thickness, but we are confident we’ ll be soon able to work by order and by kit too. This will allow us to further improve production efficiency. We have already seen significant ergonomic benefits in the management and handling of parts up to 3 m long and the sorting stage has been accelerated so much that we can tolerate some additional idle times downstream of cutting— especially during bending, perhaps the most delicate and bottleneck-prone step in our process cycle, despite the use of robots.
SOFTWARE IS THE HEART OF THE SYSTEM NEXUS is the name of the software that Salvagnini developed to program the automatic MCU sorting device. It allows for the automatic definition of part pick-up, automatic generation
of unloading sequences and positioning of part stacks in the unloading areas. The interface is simple to use and allows for manual interaction and fine-tuning. NEXUS can be used both in the office and on the machine, allowing users to set their own rules based on their needs and production strategies. This, again, provides flexibility, making it possible to manage orders based on the most diverse needs. Off-line programming certainly enables users t o manage nesting from the office and download it to the machine: this is a very interesting aspect of the Salvagnini software, as it maximises the capacity of the sorting device without using it for programming operations. We know that even inside the same company, production needs are changing at an increasingly rapid pace: NEXUS is the potentially ideal tool for managing this volatility and leveraging the MCU automatic sorting device even for dynamic and nonrepetitive orders.
