This is precisely what happened with the Salvagnini L3 fibre laser cutting system we installed at the end of last year. It ' s a fully automated system, equipped with a LTWS tower warehouse that manages loading and unloading operations. We ' ve also invested in automatic sorting, with an integrated MCU Cartesian system that guarantees high efficiency and operational levels. Today, we can process volumes of between 60 and 120 tonnes of material per month, even in unattended shifts," Lucarini explains.
A RELIABLE PARTNER Responsiveness and flexibility are the key to efficiency, especially today when orders are increasingly small and deadlines increasingly tight. This requires choosing reliable partners who combine innovative and stable technological solutions with the ability to support customers and guide them along their growth path. " This is part of our production philosophy and what we look for in a supplier," Lucarini says. " Salvagnini was chosen precisely for this reason, as well as for the quality of its systems. The MCU sorting device, in particular, guarantees impressive efficiency levels even during unmanned shifts thanks to the orderly stacking of cut parts onto pallets, which in our case are often cumbersome."
PROFITABLE CUTTING The L3 system replaced a previous CO2 laser. The investment confirms the farsightedness of the decisions taken by Lucarini and his partners: L. M. V. focuses on efficiency in its broadest sense, which encompasses both the logistical aspects— the orderly unloading of individual parts optimises the production cycle— and those related to the profitability of the cutting process. With its 8 kW of power, its 4,064 x 1,524 mm range and the ACUT option, the L3 ensures superior power and versatility compared to the previous laser, as well as lower operating costs. In fact, it allows cutting thicknesses of up to 8 mm with appropriately treated compressed air, guaranteeing output rates similar to nitrogen cutting but at significantly lower costs. " We perform 60 % of our production using compressed air, the rest with oxygen, with very little use of nitrogen," says Lucarini. " Since we process almost exclusively mild steel in all thicknesses from 1 mm to 20 mm, with a strong predominance up to 5 mm( about 85 % of the total), we have carefully considered reducing energy costs thanks to the system ' s low consumption rates."
AUTOMATION MEANS EFFICIENCY There is a third aspect, closely related to the other two, that led to the choice of the Salvagnini FMS: the current shortage of reliable skilled labour and the enormous difficulty in finding it. " For a dynamic company like ours, it was unthinkable to be at the mercy of a specific figure," explains Marco Lucarini. " If the machine doesn ' t cut, we won ' t bend the next day. It was therefore essential to invest in
