Technology:

3

After hearing Crystal’s views, we decided to transition in to further definitions of technology.

To begin, Oxford dictionary defines technology as:

1) The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry

2) Machinery and devices developed from scientific knowledge.

3)The branch of knowledge dealing with engineering or applied sciences.

After interpreting this definition, we can conclude that technology has very scientific roots.

From an alternate stand point, Merriam-Webster views technology as:

1) (a): the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area;

(b): a capability given by the practical application of knowledge

2) a manner of accomplishing a task especially using technical processes, methods, or knowledge.

3) the specialized aspects of a particular field of endeavor.

Merriam-Webster expresses the common opinion that yes, technology has a scientific origin, but the most trustworthy dictionary and thesaurus of American English also expresses that technology involves the use of technological developments, as well as existing knowledge, to realize results.

Although Merriam- Webster articulates an altered opinion, it is clear that the dictionary definition of technology is scientifically grounded. But, what if there is more to technology than science?
