Tech Plan 6 July 2014 | Page 4

! Introduction! District 25 is completing a three-year technology plan for a variety of reasons. The plan seeks to incorporate Vision 2020 and the WIRED framework to support students and staff with the skills, equipment and environments necessary to compete and collaborate in our globally unpredictable world. In addition, with an established technology plan District 25 will continue to be eligible for the E- Rate discount on services related to telecommunications and connectivity. To accomplish this important process, a committee was formed in the Spring of 2013 (see participants on page 6). The committee took several steps to identify the beliefs, strategies and activities needed to accomplish the district’s vision. Time was spent reviewing the previous technology plan and discussing which activities were completed, which are no longer relevant and which should be continued. The committee also identified areas of needs and expansion in the area of educational technology by analyzing achievement, demographic, budget and inventory data. Information from surveys was included in this process to provide perspective from a variety of uses and stakeholders. Once the gap analysis was complete, the committee set out to identify the strategies and activities to close the identified gaps. The collaborative and comprehensive effort resulted in an ambitious direction aimed at improving student achievement, enhancing student and staff productivity and incorporating relevant future-focused skills.! The District 25 Technology Plan 2014-2017 is about supporting the changing the relationship between teachers and students and teaching and learning. Teaching involves strong content knowledge, but more importantly, it is about understanding students’ thinking and their skills sets. The aim of the plan is to provide for the seamless integration of technology and future-focused skills into all aspects of student learning. This integration requires purposeful and intentional differentiated professional development to insure that all stakeholders are an integral part of preparing all of our students for this ever- changing global society. It also requires purposeful and timely communication and collaboration to all stakeholder groups so they understand the relationship between technology, pedagogy and content knowledge. Finally, appropriate technology deployment is required to provide opportunities for our students to be WIRED for Success and Understanding.! ! TECH PLAN 6 - AHSD 25 ! ! 4
