What are the Characteristics of a Godly man?
According to Watermark Community Church’s pastor, Todd Wagner, there are five all men can
start with – along with several Bible verses every Real Men should know. Please share with us
any additional verses you think we should add to this page.
1. SERVE THE KING:
Seek first His Kingdom, His glory, His righteousness. Hope in the eternal. Live for a greater reward.
Don’t live for what this world offers – pleasures, comforts, material goods. Live for what lasts and
what matters – God’s purposes.
Matthew 6:33 – But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be
given to you as well.
Mark 10:45 – For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a
ransom for many.
Joshua 24:15 – But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.
Psalm 16:11 – You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Psalm 84:10 – Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a
doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
Hebrews 6:10 – God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as
you have helped his people and continue to help them.
2. STAND STRONG:
Don’t give in when you are challenged, attacked or criticized.
Jeremiah 1:18 – Now behold, I have made you today as a fortified city and as a pillar of iron and as
walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its princes, to its priests and to the
people of the land. They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to
deliver you,” declares the LORD.
1 Corinthians 15:58 – Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in
the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
1 Peter 5:8-9 – Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a
roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same
experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.
Proverbs 24:10 – If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.
Isaiah 41:10 – Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen
you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Galatians 1:1 0 – For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please
man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.
3. STAY HUMBLE:
Be vigilant against pride. Get the log out of your eye. Don’t think less of yourself, think of
yourself less.
1 Peter 5:5 – You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves
with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES
GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.
Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in
all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 12:1 – Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is
stupid.
Isaiah 66:2 – Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the
Lord. “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who
tremble at my word.
Micah 6:8 – He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To
act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
John 15:5 – I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear
much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
Philippians 2:3-4 – Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value
others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the
others.
