Unless a students tells you about bullying it is difficult to figure out if it's happening. But there are some warning signs teachers can look for.

Warning signs

1. Shows an abrupt disinterest in school or refuses to go to school.

2. Walks an unusual route to go to and back from school.

3. Suffers a drop in grades. Concentration suffers.

4. Withdraws from school and family activities. Wants to be alone.

5. Is hungry at school. Claims to have lost money for lunch or not be hungry.

6. Takes parents’ money and makes poor excuses for needing more.

7. Never goes to the bathroom at school or stays in the bathroom during recess and lunch.

8. Does something out of character.

9. Stops talking about peers and everyday activities.

10. Uses demeaning or derogatory language when speaking about peers.

11. Has disheveled, torn or missing clothing.

12. Has physical injuries not consistent with explanation.

13. Is exhausted. Has headaches, stomachaches and is unable to sleep (is tired in class).
