Mary Poppins May 2017( 58) youth awards programme founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The awards recognise adolescents and young adults for completing a series of selfimprovement exercises. St Chris also boasts its own award for students. In its bid to develop truly global citizens the school has, conducted almost thirty overseas visits in which students get a chance to give back, while learning about and experiencing other cultures.
There is a heavy focus on staff wellbeing at St Chris. The teacher induction programme at the school is superb, from appointment, to being greeted at the airport, the teacher is guided every step of the way. Staff are provided with guidance on school life, as well as life in Bahrain. Teachers with international experience have described their onboarding experience at St Chris as world- class. The school ensures that staff accommodation is excellent and that salaries are ahead of UK rates. The school knows that happy teachers and happy students make for a happy school therefore the HR department works tirelessly to ensure that life is smooth and happy. There is also a keen emphasis on continuing professional development and staff are given a variety of opportunities both in Bahrain and around the world, to improve their knowledge and skills. The school’ s caring philosophy, together with the pleasures of living in this wonderful country, result in staff who stay at the school for many years.
Maintaining a tradition of excellence and service at St Christopher’ s school
Excellence is a part of the fabric of St Chris. The school’ s results in GCSEs, A levels as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme, are among some of the highest in the world and in some cases their results are world leading. The school is committed to giving back, as this is the best way to embed a culture of excellence in any organisation. The school boasts a wide array of service programmes, which help the staff and students to do this. St Chris supports three schools under the United World Schools umbrella, the school has raised funds to both build and run these schools. This initiative has involved extensive fund-raising involving students from the infant, the junior as well as the senior schools. The staff have visited these very remote schools, in places where there would otherwise be no education at all
A school in Cambodia built and supported with funds raised by St Christopher ' s school for the children; they report that their lives have forever changed as a result of these visits.
The Students at St Christopher’ s School are also involved in supporting poor migrant workers, handicapped children and helping to meet other local needs. The school also lends a hand in disaster relief efforts around the world. Recently aid was given by the school to victims of hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
The school is also actively involved in initiatives to help to preserve the environment. It engages in beach clean-ups and other environmental work.
