The Martin Luther King Jr . Memorial
The memorial is located in West Potomac Park southwest of the National Mall . Although this is not the first memorial to an African American in Washington , D . C ., King is the first African American honoured with a memorial on or near the National Mall and only the fourth non-President to be memorialized in such a way .
The Abraham Lincoln Memorial
The Abraham Lincoln Memorial has been home to many important events in the nation ' s capital . Perhaps most notably , Martin Luther King , Jr . delivered his " I Have a Dream " speech on the steps of the memorial in 1963 .
The new National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington , D . C
The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture opened on Sept . 24 , 2016 . Thirteen years after Congress and President George W . Bush authorized its construction . It is located close to the Washington Monument .
The Second Division Memorial
The Second Division Memorial is located in President ' s Park , between 17th Street Northwest and Constitution Avenue in Washington , DC , United States . The Memorial commemorates those who died , while serving in the 2nd Infantry Division of the U . S . Army .
IWO Jima Memorial
It was built in honour and in memory of the men of the United States Marine Corps , who gave their lives to their country . The United States Marine Corps War Memorial represents this nation ' s gratitude to Marines and those who have fought beside them .
