This team comprises an Emergency Response Project Lead , a Project Manager , a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Specialist , and 20 Emergency Response Coordinators , all selected from Teach For Armenia Alumni-Ambassadors . After receiving EiE training , these coordinators were deployed to 27 public schools across 18 communities in Armenia , reaching over 1,200 students with Social-Emotional Learning activities and coordinating essential response services for children displaced from Artsakh .
We have identified at least 500 students from Artsakh who are currently in classrooms with Teach For Armenia Teacher-Leaders across the country . In addition to deploying Emergency Response Coordinators to support afterschool programs , all 134 of our active Teacher- Leaders received training to integrate the EiE program into their classroom activities .
A critical success of our initiative was completing a comprehensive needs assessment among students participating in extracurricular learning activities . As of December 2023 , the assessment , which involved families and local teachers , was administered to 903 students . This process enabled us to identify and refer the needs of these children to local partners such as the Armenian General Benevolent Union ( AGBU ) and the Armenian Missionary Association of America ( AMAA ).
A significant challenge faced by the Emergency Response Team was the difficulty in accessing data to pinpoint schools with higher numbers of displaced children , compounded by the absence of a centralized registration system and ongoing population movement . We addressed this challenge directly with schools , regional administrations , and displaced communities .
Looking ahead , Teach For Armenia is committed to continuing and expanding our emergency response efforts . Our programmatic activities and resource allocations for 2024 have been updated to include scaling up our involvement in schools with displaced students , enhancing the identification of students in need of urgent psychological support , and recruiting additional Emergency Response Coordinators .
