Much like a single candle can dispel the darkness in a shuttered room , a single teacher can illuminate a classroom of students who have the potential to illuminate the nation .
The Power of One , the Power of Many
One teacher has the power to transform the lives of hundreds of students . One community has the power to inspire a nation . One student has the potential to become a leader who will change the course of history . At Teach For Armenia , we believe in the power of one person to spark change , which multiplied by the hundreds and thousands they reach can lead to system-wide transformation .
Our aim as an organization is to help create the tipping point necessary to drive this change . We recruit motivated individuals who are committed to growing as leaders and place them in rural communities to teach in public schools . Through the two-year program , our Teacher-Leaders leverage Change- Based Learning in order to cultivate Student-Leaders , who will , in turn , become ambassadors for our mission . By recruiting hundreds of Teacher-Leaders and cultivating thousands of Student-Leaders , we will unlock the potential of Armenia and Artsakh .
In 2021 alone , we saw a growth rate of 150 % for our incoming cohort of Teacher- Leaders . With more than 30,000 students in our partner communities , we doubled the number of students reached by our core program . Furthermore , we successfully expanded to the Syunik region while continuing our efforts in Artsakh . Through our Emergency Education Response , we continued to support children from Artsakh , reaching one out of every six Artsakhtsi students who remained in Armenia at the end of the 2020-2021 school year . Moreover , we tripled the reach of Seroond – Teach For Armenia ’ s school transformation and leadership pipeline program – by admitting two new schools into the network .
Meanwhile , Teach For Armenia continues to strengthen its Innovation Accelerator , dedicated to sparking change in every corner of the nation with educational programs for Teacher-Leaders and their students . Through Change-Based Learning , Teach For Armenia ’ s signature approach to project-based learning that leverages the national syllabus , students co-created and co-led Student- Led Innovation Projects .
