landscape that persists until this day . Against this backdrop , the campaign ’ s theme “ It ’ s Your Turn ” took on additional significance . These three words were a call to action to get involved in the development of Armenia and Artsakh and a reminder that each of us plays a role in advancing the education system , and with that , the nation ’ s future . By spring 2021 , the Recruitment Team attracted 1,575 applications to our Leadership Development Program – the most applications that Teach For Armenia has ever received . We estimate that 1 out of every 100 university seniors has applied to our program over the past two years , thereby , positioning Teach For Armenia as one of the largest recruiters of rising talent in Armenia .
In 2021 , we divided our recruitment efforts into three pathways – university seniors , young professionals , and current teachers . In fact , this was the first year that Teach For Armenia recruited current teachers . In order to achieve system-wide transformation and achieve critical mass , we must engage existing teachers and convert them into advocates for our mission . We also focused our efforts on recruiting applicants with science , technology , engineering , and math ( STEM ) backgrounds . Since STEM graduates opt to take high-paying jobs in Armenia ’ s growing technology sector , they account for the most vacancies among teaching positions nationwide and are challenging for Teach For Armenia to fill . For that reason , we created a STEM scholarship for university seniors . Teach For Armenia covers two semesters of tuition for high-performing students that commit to joining our program after graduation .
Due to the ongoing pandemic , we utilized on and offline tools to meet our recruitment goals . For example , we organized webinars including staff and Teacher-Leaders and hosted an in-person recruitment event in Moscow , Russia . With the support of Teach For Armenia Board Member Veronika Zonabend , this event attracted our largest turnout in Moscow to date . Of those who attended , 23 people applied to our Leadership Development Program and one of them is now a Teacher-Leader .
