“ When I grow up , I want to become a Seroond teacher ! They are different and help me to feel special and powerful . Because of them , I have started to like school more and more every day ,” said Sona , a second grade student at Seroond ’ s pilot school .
“ In 2019 , the Tavush Regional Administration began working much more closely with Teach For Armenia . In addition to placing Teacher-Leaders at schools throughout the region , we set out our sights on bringing a completely new school model to our students and families ,” explained Hayk Chobanyan , the Governor of the Tavush region . “ The cornerstones of the Seroond School model are inclusiveness and innovation among students , parents , teachers , and administrators .”
“ In the beginning there were some concerns , because anything new brings with it a degree of uncertainty . We knew a bit about Teach For Armenia and its track record , but our first direct experience with the organization was the Seroond Leadership Development Program ,” explained Marine Mejinyan , the principal of Takhta school in Dilijan . “ The Seroond model emphasizes parent involvement , which has been a pleasure to see bloom at our school , as well as social-emotional teaching and learning . We are noticing the results among our students already . They are beginning to understand that they are responsible for their decisions and overcoming the inevitable challenges in life .”
