1 0 Questions with Mindy Mylrea Mindy Mylrea is the 2013 CanFitPro Specialty Presenter of the Year, 2008 ECA OBOW Fitness Presenter of the Year, the 2004 Can Fit Pro International Presenter of the Year, the 1999 International IDEA Fitness Instructor of the Year, a National and World Aerobic Champion, a Gatorade sponsored athlete, and a five star presenter for IDEA. Mindy Mylrea 1. How did you start in the fitness industry? I started way before it was called the “Fitness Industry.” I started teaching at the age of 17. Now, I am almost 53. If you do the math, that was a very long time ago. 2. What or who is your inspiration for your career? There are so many fellow fitness presenters whom I work side by side who inspire me everyday. I would have to say that Jay Blahnik is my biggest inspiration. I also try to use my own authentic experiences to inspire me to lead and create. 3. What has been your favorite moment while working in the fitness industry? There are so many, I would be writing for days. The first that comes to mind is watching my parents face when I won IDEA instructor of the year and National Aerobic Champion. But I think the best moment was when my husband joined me in business. 4. Why did you create Tabata Boot Camp? I saw a need in the fitness industry for connection: Connection between trainer and trainee outside the workout, connection between bootcampers outside of the gym, and a connection between an integrated program that equally addresses behavior change, nutritional support, and research based exercise. I also wanted to offer trainers a turn key business that would have life changing results with no recurring fees for the trainer or fitness facility. 5. What makes Tabata Boot Camp different from other HIIT or tabata programs? The fact that it is a program that focuses on behavior change, nutritional support, and exercise, not just exercise. We dive into the research of Tabata and other HIIT timing protocols and structure a format that is right for each individual client or student. Tabata Bootcamp also commissioned it’s own research study which was lead by two southern California universities based on the exercises used in Tabata Bootcamp.
