Sports News Continued Canadian Rugby Team( by Caitlin McLaren, Girls’ Rugby Ambassador)
On Friday 16 March the U15 / 18’ s Girls’ Rugby Team hosted a touring Canadian team for two nights and three days. On the Saturday, it was‘ game time’. The game kicked off at 11:00 and from the start you could tell that it was going to be a tough game. They put up a great fight with big hits and great running lines. The first try came from Auchterarder’ s Captain, Caitlin McLaren, S6; it was the only try of the game. Throughout the first half Auchterarder put pressure on the opposition and came close to scoring but never made it over the white wash. During the half time period we reflected on our strengths and their strengths. The whistle went and the second half began. It was tough from the get go, the opposition put pressure on us and forced many mistakes. They came close to our white was but didn’ t succeed. After the game it was clear that their style of play was completely different to ours, we will be able to take away tips for stronger running lines and angles along with working in pods.
We all may look like monsters on the pitch but in the end we are all friends and to celebrate that we took pictures and had a miniature presentation in the Games Hall. The Player of the Match from each team was presented with a jumper and a round of applause. Both the Canadian Captain and Auchterarder Captain presented plaques that will be displayed in each Rugby Club / P. E. Department.
Hosting was an experience many of us will not forget.
