Our Malawi Partnership
Background
Fifteen S4-S6 pupils will be visiting our partner school in Malawi next June.
They will be staying with their link pupils in a local hostel and cycling back and forth to
school over the week.
They will then be leaving the bikes with 34 pupils from Linthipe Secondary School, to
allow them to get to school rather than have to stay in hostels.
They have also been challenged to a netball game between schools!
Fundraiser
From 9.15 am till 3.30 pm on Wednesday 20 December, teams of pupils from P4 to S6
took on the Malawi 2018 Team at Netball.
Pupils paid £2 each to participate in the game, which will help towards paying for the
bikes. To complement this event the Secondary Pupil Fundraising Committee organised
a non-uniform day and a lunchtime Staff vs Pupils Netball Match.
Throughout the day Sports Ambassadors Feorlin McPhee and Bonte Uwimana helped
local netball coach Ang Armstrong umpire the games, which was much appreciated.
Team Malawi may not have won every game, but they now have some good experience
of netball which will help them when they play in Malawi in June.
The staff team made a shaky start to their game against a S6 select, losing 3-6 at half time,
but after a motivating half-time team talk they took hold of the game and went on to win
by 6 points.
Overall the day raised over £1000 towards completion of the Science Block in Linthipe
Secondary School and towards bikes for pupils in the school. Huge thanks to parents,
pupils and staff for your generous support!
