Christmas in Home Economics
It’s been a busy December in the Home Economics Department
with many classes making festive products. S1 classes all made
shortbread, which we are doubtful will make it to the big day,
but the recipe is on the website if more is needed! S2 have
created wonderful mini gift cakes, decorated as snowmen
faces. S3 Hospitality pupils designed and made their own
Christmas cakes which look fantastic and will taste even better!
Auchterarder Bake Off WAP have made beautiful hand
decorated Christmas cakes, inspired by the demonstration
given by Jennifer O’Malley, Patisserie Chef from The Gleneagles
Hotel. They all made a great job and produced cakes to be
proud of.
S5/6 Practical Cake Craft combined Christmas with a practice
assessment and produced large cakes, which they designed,
planned and executed brilliantly. On Mondays after school
we ran a Christmas Cake Club for pupils of any year group to
attend. The pupils produced amazing cakes which look like
gifts, wrapped with a loopy bow. Well done to all and Merry
Christmas!
Theatre Review: A Christmas Carol, Dundee Rep By Jaia Blair, Nathan
Crawford and Brodie Ramsay
On Friday, 15 December, fifty lucky pupils from S2 drove to the Dundee Rep to see their
Christmas production of “A Christmas Carol”.
Unusually, the main character Scrooge and his
deceased partner Marley were played by women
in this production. This was an interesting and
dynamic change from the novel, but it didn’t alter
the spirit or message of the original text. Both
the acting and the stage sets were brilliant and
we especially enjoyed the special effects of the
flying bed and the snow shower!
This production was packed full of traditional
Christmas carols which made us all feel very
Christmassy. The music was played by the
actors which was really impressive and showed
how talented you had to be to perform in this
production.
Towards the end of the performance, David Dawson got to join in a version of Jingle Bells
played with hand bells before the cast performed their big finale which was a medley of
Christmas songs. Everyone enjoyed the performance and left the theatre filled with the
spirit of Christmas. A great way to end the term! Thanks to Miss Crook for organising this
trip for us and for all the teachers that accompanied us to make this event possible.
Merry Christmas everyone!
