On one of the busiest weekends of the sorority year they took the time out of their day to participate in an event so personal and worthwhile. After speaking with them I knew that this love for helping each other and the community was something that I wanted in my life.

A year later and “Cycle for Survival” was coming back to NY and this year I knew that I wanted to participate. We formed a team of six sisters and began fundraising. While it was only these six women who were going to participate in the event the entire chapter came together to raise money and awareness for the event. By the day of the event we had raised close to $2,000, the six of us traveled to the city and had a day filled with cycling, cheering, and supporting. This experience was beyond meaningful for me, being able to come together and support a sisters family in need. While her mother is now in remission, we continue to participate in “Cycle for Survival” every year. One of the best parts about being in a sorority is that not only do we support our national philanthropy but also find causes that our close to our hearts and fight for those as well." --Kaitlin Shephard

"Towards the end of Sigma Sigma Sigma’s preference round in 2012 I began to talk with several sisters who had just come back from NYC. They had participated in the annual event “Cycle for Survival” which is an indoor team cycling event which raises funds for rare cancer research. The reason these women were participating in this event was to support one members mother who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer earlier that year. All I could think about was how much passion and strength these women showed for their sorority and their sisters.
