Building Barometer

- from the desk of Jennifer Doerfel, Executive VP, TBBA

Members,

I hope you enjoy the first issue of our newly

resurrected printed newsletter, The Building Barometer. This newsletter will serve as your window to the local homebuilding industry and will give you a great view of what this association is doing for you. Having presided over the worst economic climate in our association’s history, it is with great pride that I am finally able to bring this valuable service back to you. Of course this wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated support of our members, both longtime members who supported the association regardless of the economy and new members who enter the industry and see the value of having a thriving organization whose sole purpose is to provide them with advocacy, recognition for excellence in their field and professional development opportunities in the Tampa Bay area.

This newsletter will provide you with association news, industry updates, regulatory information, topics of interest and of course, lots of great recaps and pictures of our events. Remember, this is all for you, the member, so please share with me ideas on what you’d like to see in your newsletter. I hope to see you at one of our meetings or events soon and thank you for all you do.

Jennifer Doerfel

Executive Vice President

Commandment 8: 60 minutes online a day is plenty to be successful with social networking.

If all of your followers are relatives, you need to get out of your cave and into the web. While games can help strengthen relationships, the time you spend on gaming does not count as business development.

3-5 messages back and forth warrant a phone call. Remember, your goal is to create a relationship to generate results.

7 & 8 of 10 Commandments of Social Networking, provided by Tiffanie Kellog, The Referal Institute.

Commandment 7: Manage your Connections

Earlier, we mentioned more is not necessarily better. Interact with your target audience where they like to interact. For example: If you are a hair salon in Tampa and you have 5,000 followers, but 3,500 are in Beijing, you’d do better with 250 followers in your hometown. Remember, birds of a feather flock together. If your community doesn’t resonate with your target market, they will not want to interact there.
