History Is Made
Welcome to the latest issue of Tartan Kicks.
October 2016 really was a month of history for Scottish Women's history. For the first time ever, Scotland had two clubs in the UEFA Women's Champions League. And there was a Scottish record attendance in the competition at Hibernian's first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich which saw 2,551 spectators attend Easter Road.
Domestically, it was Glasgow City who made history, winning their tenth title in a row. City has been magnificent in the league this season, and deservedly won the title after beating Hibernian 3-1. In the 21 game season, they've only lost one game.
We finally discovered who would win the the inaugural SWPL 2 title. The title race went down to the final day with three clubs having a chance of being crowned champions. By beating Buchan, it was Hamilton Academical who won the league.
There is one more game left in the season with Glasgow City and Hibernian battling for the 2016 SSE Scottish Cup, a game that will be broadcast on BBC Alba. It will be an extraordinary game, the first that will be sponsored by SSE.
However, things have not been all great. Scotland's friendly against the Netherlands ended in a painful 7-0 defeat which raises some concerns for the Euros. But, at least that performance took place in October, rather than in July next year.
This is the final main issue of Tartan Kicks to be released this season, although, there will be a special handbook coming out in either late November early December.
Thank you for all your support this season.
