Tanzania has had problems with food security for countless years, and their problems continue well into the 21st century. The biggest contributor to their famine is drought, which leaves the farmers with dead crops and dead livestock.Tanzania will continue to have a problem with their food security unless they make a change, a change towards GMO's.
Corporations in the United States push for Tanzanian farmers to adopt the way of America: Genetically Modified crops, or GMO crops. The crop that is being talked about is a drought resistant corn, which can increase crop yields as much as 25% during drought. The genetically modified corn is also said to fight off plant diseases, which is another source of famine. Another way that GM crops can help countries facing famine is by infusing seeds with a micronutrient that can help integrate more vitamin A into peoples diets, so they can receive the nutrients they need.
