Birth Story

I didn't plan having an assisted

delivery - I don't think anyone does!

I was going to be controlling my

breathing in a birthing pool and ta

dah there's your baby! I had it all

planned...

Fast forward to 10 days after my due

date and still no baby!! Then one

night my other half turns over in bed

and whoosh it's like we're having a

swim! A visit to the hospital later and

were back at home eating a Chinese...

still no pain or baby...

Next morning we arrive at the hospital for induction. Midwife examines me and immediately calls the consultant - I sh** myself (not literally) realising there's my plan out of the window. Consultant casually informs me that I am 10 cm dilated and this baby is coming now!! I am in mild pain but nothing to write home about so far...

The consultant informs me that my labour is progressing fast, really fast and because of that I have to have a heart monitor on the baby. There's my pool plan completely gone!! Damn... I am silently gutted that I will be stuck on the bed till this baby makes an entrance. I can't even walk round the room they tell me... not happy!! We only arrived at the hospital an hour ago - I imagine I am now stuck on this bed for 100 hours!! So I get on the bed like a whale gets itself stranded on the beach. The whale doesn't want to be there and I don't want to be here! But here we are.

Baby has a different game plan and lets me relax for all of 10 minutes then things change - quickly! There's no time for any pain relief even if I wanted any! My birthing pool is a long and distant memory and I

am just rolling with it.

Fast forward 30 mins and I am pushing... pushing really hard! I nearly get the head out and the cord is round baby's neck and one of the limbs. I try again and still no baby. By this point I am giving it everything I have. One final push she keeps saying and I have got to

the "just get it out!!!!" stage... 😃
