Cloth Nappies - The Real Story

Our cloth nappy adventure began in April

2016... a bit late to the party as our little

girl was five months when we gave cloth

a go! It started with curiosity of the

colourful bags of nappies brought by the

nappy librarian to the Ikea coffee morning.

When I came home with the nappies, my

husband's response was "what the....". A

few visitors to our home later, especially of the original cloth nappy generations, and I loved hearing their stories of using cloth nappies and remarks of "how they have changed" and "haven't they come a long way!"

I felt part of something that was previously an alien concept to me as a parent. Now this is just bringing the nappies home before cloth even touched her bum! The switch to cloth nappies was controversial within our house, her dad did not understand why and what was wrong with disposables. For me, I am no eco warrior, but the environmental impact of disposables and the idea of chemicals next to her skin was enough to want me to switch, and yes, the pretty patterns were so cute!

The nappy library kit was loaned to us for two weeks, however by the end of the first week we had bought our first kit! An eBay bargain to start our own cloth collection. By the time I returned the kit, dad was converted
