They were deputized to plan and implement strategic policies, programs, and projects on drug prevention and control, given the political and police powers of the barangay to administer the affairs of the community,’’ PDEA said in a statement. In accordance with the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) regulation, all Local Government Units (LGUs) are enjoined to appropriate a substantial portion of their annual budgets for barangay drug-clearing operations, including the activation of BADACs. Aquino said that failure to allocate disapproval of their annual budget and possible filing of appropriate charges pursuant to the local government code and anti-drug law. “In case of failure of the local officials to conform with the duties as mandated in the barangay drug-clearing program shall also be a ground for the filing of appropriate charges of gross negligence and dereliction of duties,” Aquino added. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has issued a similar memorandum and at the same time admonished the non-compliant barangay officials to establish functional BADACs through letters, but those warnings were not heeded. “PDEA reiterates its call for all barangays not only activate but also strengthen their BADACs, which are deemed important in maintaining a pro-active stand in shielding the people from the drug menace,” Aquino said, adding that failure to do so will be ground in pursuing legal actions against them. (PIA-NCR/ PDEA) DOE beefs up fuel quality, quantity inspections TAGUIG CITY -- The Department of Energy-Oil Industry Management Bureau (DOE-OIMB) on Wednesday, May 23, intensified its series of random inspections of fuel stations to ensure quality and quantity of petroleum products amid the current oil situation. The OIMB chose around 13 gas stations along Shaw Boulevard traversing the cities of Mandaluyong and Pasig for fuel quality and quantity inspection. In a statement, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said the move aims to ensure that consumers are protected despite the increasing oil prices with oil companies delivering the best quality and right quantity of fuel products. Cusi, in a meeting with oil companies on Tuesday, asked oil industry stakeholders to devise measures to address the adverse impact of higher oil prices. “We are here to help one another find ways to cushion the effect of the oil situation, and ensure the utmost protection of our consumers despite the geopolitical factors abroad that we cannot control DOST... another firm and started using its own. It is now an accredited HT provider. Likewise, another pallet-maker also in Cabuyao, Laguna was able to save at least 100,00 board feet of lumber from sure decay, thanks to the HT facility. In 2011, Suri Pallets, Inc. put up a lumber dryer designed by a private company. The machine, however, failed to work properly, leaving the firm unable to dry its huge stock of lumber. The management then asked DOST- affecting the world oil market,” Cusi said. During the meeting, oil companies have expressed willingness to give discounts and widen their CSR programs to support the transport sector and even the marginalized, which will be formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the DOE. At present, PUVs avail of a PhP1.00/liter discount under an existing MOA between the DOE and only three oil firms. The DOE is closely coordinating with the Department of Finance to discuss new measures concerning the excise tax and value-added tax on oil as a result of the implementation of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law. The DOE will also be working with the Department of Transportation for the swift implementation of Section 82 of the TRAIN Law on fuel vouchers for Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs), and pursue the Department’s efforts to expedite the unbundling of fuel prices. According to DOE, the current increase in the price of oil has been brought about by recent mula sa pahina 8 FPRDI to help and in 2015, the the dryer was renovated using the design of its low-cost HT system. With the make over, Suri was finally able to dry all its lumber supply, and increased its output from 100 to 500 pallets per day. Ms. Carmelo concluded, “We are happy that DOST-FPRDI’s heat treatment technology is an export industry enabler and promotes for our pallet makers a safer and cheaper way to comply with global standards.” (Rizalina K.
