National Museum of Natural
History to open on May 18
MANILA-- In celebration of the 2018 International
Museum Day, the National Museum of the
Philippines will open the National Museum of
Natural History on Friday, May 18.
“We are promoting to Filipinos and visitors
from all around the world our National Museum
in the Philippines. Here can be found knowledge,
appreciation and love for our heritage as Filipinos
and as people, in the fields of fine arts, anthropology,
the natural world and their historical contexts,” said
National Museum Chairman Ramon R. del Rosario.
Del Rosario added that the National
Museum is one of the leading centers of education,
science and culture. “All who are interested or
merely curious are able to come because admission
is free, to the National Museum Complex in Rizal
Park in Manila, and to our museums nationwide,
from Batanes to Jolo, which is made possible by the
strong support for this institution from the national
government and our partners in the private and other
sectors,” said Del Rosario.
The theme of this year’s International
Museum Day is “Hyperconnected museums: New
approaches, new publics.”
All are invited to walk in by registering
at the counter of our main entrance hall facing the
Rizal Park. Pre-registrations and reservations are
not required. Museum hours are from 10 am to 5 pm
(last admission at 4:30 pm), Tuesday to Sunday.

Maigting na kampanya laban sa ilegal na droga,
prayoridad ng bagong Batangas City police OIC

LUNGSOD NG BATANGAS, (PIA) -- Nakatuon ang
pansin ng bagong talagang Officer-In-Charge ng Batangas
City Police Station sa pagpapa-igting ng kampanya kontra
illegal na droga.
Sinabi ni Batangas City Police Station OIC PSupt
Sancho Celedio, na nananatiling prayoridad ng kanilang
pamunuan ang kampanya laban sa illegal na droga at
nangakong ipagpapatuloy ang nasimulan ng mga nauna sa
kanya kaugnay ng kampanya.
Inihayag din ni Celedio na hamon din sa kanyang
pamumuno sa Batangas City Police na makamit ang ideal
police ratio na 1:500 mula sa kasalukuyang 1:2,000 ratio.
Ayon sa kanya, patuloy ang police visibility sa
kanyang nasasakupan upang maramdaman ng mga tao na
ang mga pulis ay nakatutok sa kaligtasan at seguridad ng
bawat Batangueno.
Kaugnay nito, hiniling niya ang patuloy na
community mobilization o pakikiisa ng komunidad upang
masugpo ang anumang uri ng krimen.
Samantala, bago maganap ang SK and Barangay
elections noong Mayo 14, pinangunahan ni Celedio
ang covenant signing ng mga tumakbo sa eleksyon
na nilahukan ng lahat ng mga kinatawan mula sa 105
barangays ng lungsod ng Batangas.
Sa covenant signing, hiniling niya ang
pagsusulong ng malinis at tahimik na eleksyon at hinikayat
ang mga kabataan na pumasok sa kanilang larangan upang
madagdagan ang puwersa ng pulis.
Binanggit din niya ang malakas na suporta
ng pamahalaang lungsod sa Batangas City police.
“Pinakamalakas na kakampi naming ang pamahalaang
lungsod,” wika ni Celedio.
Si Celedio ay nagtapos sa Phillipine National
Police Academy noong 1999. Na-assign na siya sa Camp
Crame at napabilang din sa peace keeping force ng United
Nations sa Africa at East Timor.
Siya ay dating deputy provincial director for
administration ni Police Senior Supt Alden Delvo na
nagsilbing OIC Provincial Director ng lalawigan ng
Batangas. Naglingkod din siya bilang hepe ng Calamba
PNP sa loob ng kalahating taon at anim na buwan naman
sa Tagaytay City.
Pinalitan niya si PSupt. Wildemar Tan Tiu na

join agri journalism awards

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, (PIA) -- PMFTC, Inc.,
a joint-venture company between Philip Morris
Philippines Manufacturing, Inc. and Fortune Tobacco
Corporation, brings the Bright Leaf Caravan to
Laguna and encouraged local media practitioners
to compete in the 12th Bright Leaf Agriculture
Journalism Awards.
As an agricultural company, PMFTC, Inc.
holds Bright Leaf to recognize and honor relevant and
outstanding agricultural news and feature stories that
help raise the awareness and discourse on timely and
critical agricultural developments, issues and gaps
that needed to either be known or addressed.
There are eleven categories to which
journalists may submit one entry each, as follows:
(1) Agriculture Story of the Year, (2) Agriculture
Photo of the Year, (3) Tobacco Story of the Year.
(4) Tobacco Photo of the Year, (5) Best Television
Program or Segment, (6) Best Radio Program or
Segment, (7) Best Agriculture News Story-National,
(8) Best Agriculture News Story-Regional, (9)
Best Agriculture Feature Story-National, (10) Best
Agriculture Feature Story-Regional, and (11) Best
Online Story.
The Best Online Story, the newest category
introduced during the program, shall be given to the
best agriculture news or feature story that is published
on an online news website.
Entries may be in English, Filipino, or any of the
Philippine regional dialects; however, an English
translation must be submitted along with the material
that is not written in English.
Registration is free. The journalists and
photographers who wish to join may submit their
entries to more than one category but are not allowed
to send more than one entry for each category.

category may be found by clicking the Contest Guide

Entries must be published, aired, or broadcast
from September 1, 2017 to August 31, 2018. The
deadline of submission is on September 1 of this year
and it may be submitted via web, courier or email.
The winners who will be receiving cash
prizes, iPads, and an all-expense-paid trip to an Asian
country will be announced during the 2018 Bright
Leaf Agriculture Journalism Awards in November.
The Best Agriculture Story of the Year will
be bringing home P50,000 cash. Victors who would
win for five consecutive years shall be bequeathed an
Oriental Award.
At the launching of this year’s search,
Josephine Costales, owner of the well-known
organic farm Costales Nature Farm, talked about the
success story of their farm and their best agricultural
practices.
Department of Agriculture Region 4A (DA
4A) Regional Information Officer Patria Bulanhagui,
on the other hand, discussed their Philippine Rural
Development Project (PRDP) for CALABARZON
region which concerns the farmers and the entire

of way upang madagdagan ang pondo ng
