By Vangie Minogue Game of Thrones Review: The Ending we deserve WHO would have thought Game of Thrones would end on a goofy note, with Tyrion at the helm of a small council meeting telling jokes about brothels- and Bronn as the newly minted Lord of Highgarden to boot. The Queen of Thornes, Olenna Tyrell, must be rolling in her grave. But I guess everything has become a free-for-all-shitshow in this world where we suddenly have useless, robotic Bran Stark as King. And all along I was secretly hoping the leaks were fake and were meant to mislead all the fans. Hindi pala. The absurd has become the real. Welcome to being fucked up by D&D. Kung saan Joke nalang lahat lahat. When Jon finally kills Dany as the leaks had predicted, the dragon had more pathos than Jon Snow in that scene. Ang hirap lang lulukin na after one talk with Tyrion, naconvince na agad si Jon to kill the love of his life. Also it defies logic, how could Drogon let Jon get away with killing his mother?!?...no, hindi ako naniniwala na Drogon was a pussy and let Jon Snow just murder his mother ng ganun ganun nalang, without fire and blood?!! Sabihin eh ksi Targaryen si Jon Snow kaya he got away with it, love sha nung dragon. Chura. Hello, during the Dance of Dragons War, Targaryens and their dragons killed each, one Targ king even had his dragon eat a rival sister in the throne room. Kelangan believable man lang yung eksena maryosep. And making the dragon melt down the Iron Throne instead, anuba, such a fanboy move, para lang “wow cool, in the end, the throne is melted down, ang galing, symbolic...” says moronic fans and d&d asslickers. As if ganun ang mode ni Drogon in the midst of his grief— to do something symbolic. We all want that fuckin’ throne melted really, but there must be a better way, a better context to enact that scene and its symbolism. This was just ridiculous. And did he have to stab her in the middle of a kiss?! The horror of it. Poor Dany. And poor Jon Snow. Now I fuckin’ hate the cold hearted sonofabitch. And we all hated Olly and Alliser Thorne when they betrayed Jon Snow “for the watch”, now our war hero ended up being worse than the ones who killed him. I need something more compelling, for Jon to cross that line...one talk with Tyrion wasn’t compelling enough for me. So really, Jon Snow came back to life and fell in love. Only to kill that same great love. Guy was always meant to be unhappy as fuck. The only nice thing here is, that Ghost finally gets to be petted by Jon. Pero yun lang? A single scene of our bida finally petting his dog ang “sweet” na kaya nyong ibuga sa bitterness ng episode na ito? And he goes back beyond the Wall and we hear the tindig balahibo GoT theme and The End. Pweh. I can’t help but think what was the point of ever being a Targaryen for Jon Snow? All those years of R+L=J theorizing from the fans. Only for the literal “song of ice and fire” to end up being a kinslayer and a queenslayer. Lord. The montage where the Starks are shown at the end – with Sansa Queen in the North, Bran as King of the Six Kingdoms, Arya on her great adventure and Jon back in the North, where he supposedly truly belongs was actually a great way to conclude the whole series, we see toward the end how the family who suffered most in the Game of Thrones wins in the end. The pack survives. Sweet justice ika nga. But how they got there, with Sansa as this distrustful, ungrateful and manipulative mini version of Cersei and Littlefinger combined...Bran this robotic individual with whom the audience has no sympathy for whatsoever...Jon our supposed Hero made helpless and mostly useless this season (he did not even get to kill the Night King),and Arya a cold killer who feels nothing and is beholden to nothing – I am not sure these are the protagonists we loved or have cheered for and much like the characters themselves, it all just leaves you feeling cold in the end. Jon especially seemed so cold and out of touch this season, the way he handled Daenerys was cold and insensitive and then without any preamble he just suddenly decides to kill his great love. It all seemed so contrived and well, it made Jon’s character irredeemable for me. This is not the Jon Snow I have rooted for and loved all these years. I ended up believing that Jon Snow (after Tyrion Lannister) was the Photo Courtesy of Google image mapag-aralan ang mga ito. (BHABY P. DE CASTRO, PIA Batangas) worst thing to have happened to Daenerys Targaryen. If she had never met these fuckers perhaps she would still have her friends, her dragons and hercareer goals all intact and reachable Ayoko na mag- emote about her death at mapaghahalataan lang na Dany fangirl ako mashado, pero let it be said that if they were gonna make her the central tragic figure at the series’ end, they should have at least threshed out the story better, para mas dama ng audience yung tragedy ni Daenerys, her fall from grace should have been one long painful ride for all of us Dany fans...then when Jon Snow finally stabs her in the heart...cathartic man lang sa dulo. A feeling of sadness and rightness to the whole story. This just leaves us shellshocked and feeling dumbed down. If they wanted to show us all how our heroes can become the villains in the end, they should have spent more time threshing that out. Turning this hero of the past seven seasons the main villain in just two episodes was a ridiculous proposition and its execution was ludicrous to say the least. Truly we needed more episodes and perhaps two more seasons to have properly pulled off that ending. If according to the show’s logic, Daenerys needed to die in the end, that’s fine. Just make sure it’s a damn good story. Ksi this was just awful. The series built her up all these years, only to throw her under the bus in the end. She still deserved a better story teller than this. She. Deserved. Better. What they did to her— in around two episodes— was a disgrace. Daenerys was powerful woman, she showed us how to triumph despite great odds, how to rise above being “sold, raped and defiled,” she freed slaves and helped saved a nation from the great existential threat that is the Night King and his army of the dead. To turn that all to dust in the end, have her loose all those she loves, loose her claim to the throne and die betrayed in the arms of the man for whom she sacrificed so much was truly an injustice to this character. Game of Thrones was a series that became known for its shocking twists and for subverting audiences’ expectations, but how the show ended with plot twists that just seemed to have been formulated solely for the shock value (case in point, Rhaegal’s illogical and pointless – but shocking – death) just alienated its audience further. Add to the the fact that numerous loopholes in the plot left many disbelieving and frustrated with how the story has been told. The End of Game Thrones has left its fans very sad and ultimately, not caring anymore. They ruined it and it will never be redeemed. Honestly, I’ve read a dozen far better fanfiction than this ending they got here. Here’s to hoping GRRM finishes the books and we can all have the catharsis WE deserve.
