E-Power your 2019 energy resolution
TAGUIG CITY -- “Save Save
Save,” is the 2019 opening mantra
of the Department of Energy
(DOE) to Filipino consumers as
the new year unfolds.
DOE Secretary Alfonso
G. Cusi advices our kababayans
that in order for them to save more
in 2019, they have to embrace an
energy efficient lifestyle.
“E-Power Mo means
we have that Energy Ability.
Embracing an energy efficient
lifestyle will make our families
and our nation more prosperous,”
Cusi reminded.
The Secretary noted 10
simple New Year’s resolutions
toward electricity and fuel
efficiency:
1. Save money by turning off
lights when not needed. By
turning off one light bulb for five
(5) hours per day, you can save
2.1 kilowatt-hour per month or
P21.
2. Save money by unplugging
unused
electric
appliances.
Unplugging your appliances
avoids “phantom load” or the
wasted energy for leaving
appliances plugged but unused. A
CRT television (8 watts standby
power) and its cable or digital
box (8 watts standby power) as
combined consume a total of
16 watts of phantom load or an
equivalent of P57.60 worth of
wasted electricity per month.
3. Save money by using LED
lighting system. You can save
at most 86 percent energy by
switching from incandescent bulb
to LED or 50 percent savings
from compact fluorescent lamp to
LED.
4. Save money by maintaining
the cleanliness of your electric
appliances (e.g., air-conditioners
and refrigerator). You can save
around PhP96.00 for regularly
cleaning the filters and condensers
of a one horsepower conventional
aircon being operated for eight
(8) hours per day. On refrigerator,
a total of 13.5 kilowatt-hour can
be saved every month if it’s clean
and not overloaded.
5. Save money by defrosting
frozen food prior to cooking.
Thawing your frozen good before
cooking reduces LPG/electricity
consumption, thus saves money.
6. Save money by taking
advantage of the sun’s heat and
light even more. More than the
savings on lighting during the
day, you can take advantage
of the heat of the sun to dry up
clothes instead of spin dry or
heated drying.
7. Save money by having correct
tire pressure. Under-inflated
tires can lower gas mileage by
0.4 percent for every one pound
per square inch (psi) drop in
pressure of all four tires. You can
save at least P150 per month for
gasoline, while P120 for diesel by
just having correct tire pressure.
8. Save money by checking and
replacing car air filters regularly.
About 10% of fuel consumption
can be saved by replacing
clogged air filters. This would
improve your car’s gas mileage,
not to mention help you avoid
impurities that are harmful to
your engine. An estimated nine
(9) liters per month can be saved
or about P432 for gasoline or
P340 for diesel. *Prices as of
December 20, 2018.
9. Save money by auditing your
home system’s consumption
and performance. You can save
at least 10 percent from your
monthly electricity bill if you
audit or monitor the electricity
consumption of each of your
appliance/equipment. If your bill
is P2,000/month, you can save at
least P200.
10. Save money by buying
more energy efficient electric
appliances and gadgets (e.g.,
inverter technologies). Inverter
air-conditioners can save up to
20%-40% energy consumption
equivalent
to
P400-P800
savings per month. For inverter
refrigerators, you can save up to
20%-30% energy consumption
equivalent to P160-P240 savings
per month.
“Let us welcome the new
year with new perspective, new
hopes and new ways in dealing
with our daily activities in 2019,”
Sec. Cusi imparted. (DOE)
ISA nang tradisyon na nag-ugat
sa kultura nating mga Pilipino na
salubungin ang Bagong Taon na
maingay at nagpapaputok.
Bakit nga ba? Karamihan
sa
atin
ay
naniniwalang
dapat maingay at masaya ang
pagsalubong sa bagong taon. Ito
nga ang dahilan kung bakit naging
bahagi na ng ating “New Year’s
Eve countdown celebration” ang
pagpapaputok
Ang iba’y naniniwala
na ang pagpapaputok ay paraan
upang maitaboy ang malas na
dinanas sa nakaraan taon upang
hindi na muli ito maranasan sa
pagpasok ng bagong taon.
Subalit
batay
sa
karanasan,
napakaraming
negatibong bagay ang idinudulot
ng paputok.
Kapag hindi naging
maingat, kadalasan nagreresulta
ito sa aksidente. May nalalapnos
ang mukha, nagmistulang tocino
at longganisa ang mga naputukang
mga daliri. May tuluyang pinutol
na ang daliri sa kanan at kaliwang
kamay.
Sa pagsalubong sa taong
2019, muling nananawagan ang
Department of Health (DoH) sa
Natatanging...
publiko na iwasan ang pagamit
ng paputok upang maiwasan din
ang disgrasya.
Marami naman aniya na
paraan ng pagsalubong sa bagong
taon na mas ligtas.
“Kinakalampag
ko
lahat ng pwedeng makalampag,
sabi kasi kailangang mag-ingay
para lumayas ang malas,” sabi ni
Joedie May Boliver, 21 anyos na
siguradong hindi magtatamo ng
kahit anumang peligro dulot ng
paputok.
May
ilan
namang
gumagamit ng torotot, takip
ng kaldero at maging mga
walang laman na balde, batya,
lata, malakas na radyo upang
makalikbha ng ingay.
Iniulat ng Department of Health
(DOH) na gumagastos ang
pamahalaan ng napakalaking
halaga taun-taon sa paggamot at
pag-aasikaso sa mga nagiging
biktima ng “firecracker related
injury.”
Ayon sa DOH, ang
mga pampublikong ospital ay
gumugugol ng mula P3,000
hanggang P25,000 sa bawat
biktimang malala ang na-ging
pinsala, habang P2,000 naman
para sa mga maliit lang ang
pinsala at nasa kategoryang “out
patient” lang.

“Ito ‘yung mga trabaho
— trabahante ng gobyerno na
utusan mo, bigyan mo ng pera,
makikita mo ‘yung results,” he
said in support of politicians with
“integrity.”
President Duterte also
mentioned his ardent hope for the
positive result of the plebiscite
ratifying the Bangsamoro Organic
Law (BOL) to effectively pursue
the progress and development in
Mindanao.
“I hope and I pray that
something good will come out of
the BOL. Though the plebiscite
is forthcoming, we have every
reason to believe that it would
pass the people’s will at sana
magkaroon tayo ng kapayapaan
because if not mahirapan tayo
nito.” Duterte said.
According to Pres.
Duterte, the presidency was a gift
from God and, in turn, he will do
his job conscientiously with the
fight against drugs topping his
agenda. He, however, admitted
the gravity of the problem is
overwhelming, saying “I could not really fulfill my promise to do
away with drugs within six years.
Impossible… It’s going to be a
continuing one.”
The president even
made a stern warning that in
the remaining three years of his
term, his administration will
be targeting ‘big time’ people
involved in illegal drugs.
Duterte’s war on drugs
has been continuously subjected
to various criticisms from the
religious and civil society groups
but the President maintains the
effects of drugs have wreaked
havoc to families, making some
of them dysfunctional, and to
the community, in general with
crimes such as robbery, rape, and
murder.
After
his
speech,
President Duterte willingly
obliged for photo ops, first with
the Tolentino clan, then with the
local government officials of
CALABARZON. He was later
serenaded with Tagalog songs
by singer Faith Cuneta. (Ruel
