Martinez is also on the board of governors for the Human Rights Campaign, and he serves as a chairman for the steering committee, which is the local board of the organization.
In these roles, he is a principal fundraiser, and he works to educate Americans about the issues of lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender equality and inclusion.
Martinez, who grew up Catholic, said he practices his faith at downtown Phoenix’s St. Mary’s Basilica, and that although Catholic doctrine opposes gay marriage, he said he has never felt any tension there.
He considers Saint Francis of Assisi one of his role models, and he said he admires Pope Francis for helping to change the church’s tone when it comes to embracing all members of society.
