He stayed involved with education by working to guarantee affordable access to the state’s three public universities as the government affairs director and campus organizer.
“(He was) always putting in long hours,” Cybulski said. “He would always get the briefing book that the regents would get, and he would be the one who would read it all and know what he was talking about.”
Martinez moved from Tucson to Phoenix in 2010 to work as a state lobbyist for the association.
He said he was reluctant to make the move because he had lived his entire life in the Tucson area and all of his family was there, but after attending a Rockwood Leadership Institute retreat through his job, he was sure of his decision.
