Krevolin & Horst , LLC attorneys Jessica Cino and Jacob Edwards presented on the “ Fundamentals of Cyber Fraud ” at the December 2023 “ But You Say You ’ re a Lawyer ” CLE event . Their program aimed to help attorneys and clients of all sizes better understand , manage , and reduce their cybersecurity risk and protect their networks and data . It provided an outline of best practices to mitigate damage and focus time and money for cybersecurity protection .
Cino and Edwards reviewed the various state and federal departments , offices , and task forces that investigate and prosecute cyber fraud cases , and provided recommendations on how to access their services and navigate their overlapping jurisdictions most effectively . They also discussed how a rapid response to an unfolding cyber fraud can be the key to retaining or recovering funds . Cino and Edwards addressed cyber insurance , including what businesses should look for in a policy , and the pros and cons of pursuing litigation when a business experiences a complete loss that is not covered by insurance . Finally , Cino and Edwards discussed the rise of ransomware attacks and other emerging cyber fraud schemes , particularly those targeted at law firms .
