The last event of the summer was our Bourbon Tasting at ASW Distillery . This was another extremely well attended event , which was especially gratifying as the weather that evening was horrendous . I understand that the whiskeys were delicious . I have to take the other attendees ' word for it because , unlike me , they apparently didn ’ t have a VERY bad experience with bourbon during a Mardi Gras night their freshmen year of college .
On September 7 , we held the 23rd Annual event and fundraiser , The Legal Runaround 5K at Westside Park . Over 200 runners reg istered and , along with our sponsors , we raised $ 30,872 to provide scholarships for children of APD officers killed or injured in the line of duty . Atlanta Bar President Emily Ward was joined by APD Major Jeffrey Cantin in presenting the 2024 Peace Officer of the Year Award to APD Officer Caroline Bush . ( See cover photo ).
