Ask the Board

What inspired you to become more deeply involved in service as an Atlanta Bar leader ?
Betsy C . Griswold

Service has always been in my DNA and as a young lawyer searching to find a “ place ” in the Atlanta legal community , the Atlanta Bar provided a safe place to build relationships and community . You looked up to those in leadership and were able to see a demonstration of selflessness and actively giving back to the community and the profession . Actions not words speak volumes to encourage others to serve and Atlanta Bar leaders demonstrate this every day . So excited to see so many younger lawyers serving now .
Some of those relationships with leaders of the Atlanta Bar continue todaythanks Wade Malone for leading by example !
Joel Neuman
Atlanta Bar Foundation President
I got involved with Bar Association because lawyers whom I looked up to and who represented the best angels of our profession - people like Rita Sheffey and David Schaeffer - were involved in serving the Bar , so I thought the Bar
Association was a place where I could also give back to the commmunity .

First , my family always stressed the importance of service . As a young lawyer , I had great mentors . In particular , Stan Kreimer introduced me to the Atlanta Bar Litigation Section breakfasts . The great lawyers I met at those breakfasts encouraged and inspired me to become more involved . Shayna Steinfeld invited me to be on the Atlanta Bar Board when she was president . Dianne O ’ Steen , Terri Bryant , Sally Hogsette , and Toni Roberts , nudged me forward . The take-aways ? “ Help the next one in line .” ( Humble and Kind ). To younger lawyers – the Atlanta Bar presents a huge menu of opportunities to help many and to build a reputation while doing it .
