Voss Trip

This year I was lucky enough to be able to go on the school ski trip to Norway. I learnt to ski when I was at school three years ago and was really looking forward to the opportunity of a weeks skiing in Norway.

We arrived at the resort on Saturday afternoon and checked into our hotel. It took a while to sort out the rooms, but we eventually got our keys and headed to our rooms. I was sharing a room with Paul who works in the sports hall.

The hotel was perfectly positioned for access to the ski lifts and slopes. It had a games room with a pool table, table football and a TV. The village centre was within easy walking distance and had lots of restaurants and a variety of shops.

I was looking forward to my first meal at the hotel. The food was good and didn’t disappoint. After tea, we had to go to get our skis and boots fitted and collect our ski poles. Later that evening we had some social time in the hotel and played some pool.

The next day, we had an early start with an 8am breakfast and a short walk across to the ski lift for a 10am meet. We were allocated to our ski groups. There were two groups: beginners and advanced, and they were allocated based on experience. We had 2 instructors for the week: Felix and Sam. There were 10 in the beginners group and 6 in the advanced group. Sam took the beginners group and Felix took the advanced group. After the morning session, we went for a lunch break in the mountains and nearly everyone’s lunch diet included either burgers or hot dogs. When we got back to the hotel we had a little time to ourselves for relaxation after a hard day of skiing. Then after that it was tea and some social time.

Every evening there was some form of entertainment, we had a quiz, film nights and the final night we even had a disco.

During the week we had a lot of mixed weather, some days it was bright lovely sun shine but we had a couple of days where you couldn’t even see the next person in front of you. Throughout the week the children were brilliant, they were so well behaved and did everything we asked and the instructors asked them to do. Their skiing ability was excellent, even the people that were struggling at the beginning were all managing the red runs and even some black ones by the end. Even Mr Roberts said it was the best skiing ability group they have ever had and he has been going for 11 years!

It was an absolutely fantastic trip with some brilliant skiing. I can’t wait for next time!
