Platinum Leaders
On 24th March 2014, 3 students and Mr Downey from John Spence Community High School went on a trip of a lifetime to Wembley Stadium in London to be part of the national Young Ambassador Celebration Day.
Joseph Harvey, Jacob Shotton and I were selected to attend the celebration following a challenging national application process that saw over 4000 young people apply for places. The three of us are key members of the School’s Sports Organising Committee and we are all platinum Young Ambassadors.
We were allocated our groups for the day and none of us were together. This was a bit scary but we were so excited and wanted to make a good impression we took it in our stride. I was introduced to the several inspirational athletes before setting off to my first work-shop. During the day I worked with other ambassadors from all over the UK.
Our group’s first task was to invent a new sport to feature in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games later this year. We had to use the skills that we have learnt as young ambassadors from all of the conferences we have attended.
After lunch I met Jessica-Ennis Hill, well a cardboard cut-out and made an advertising video using the mesmerising backdrop of Wembley. Each group received an iPad to create a short video, unfortunately none of our groups won.
Young Ambassador Celebration Day.
March 2014
We met at Newcastle Central Station catching the 6am train to Kings Cross Station, London. We arrived at 9:30am. A further taxi journey saw us arrive at Wembley Stadium and after a few quick 'selfies' with the magnificent stadium as the back drop we arrived for the opening ceremony.
