The ‘Remembrance’ painting (left) seems to be a bit of a ‘break- through’ for the artist. It’s looser and with its unfinished appearance (with area of the canvas or linen clearly left un-worked) gives the work a look of ‘spontaneous painting’ and not a meticulous time consuming realist photographic piece. Many of the photo-real artworks seen today have a feeling of being ‘sanitized,’ (sic: without feelings or emotion). The ‘Remembrance’ painting by Martin does have a sense of emotion, space and time. This work also holds the promise of future paintings with a life and an energy that is imbued with empathy - To quote from a special feature article from Tubes magazine... “...there can be still life, in Still Life Paintings.” all images: ©Martin Davis https://martindavisartist.co.uk/ glass vase with fruit - 300mmx 400mm oil on canvas board
