THE FEMALE VOICE

The deployment of female troops not only allowed British women to be empowered, but also allowed Afghan women to have a voice of their own. Afghan women are heavily oppressed due to the heavily misogynistic local culture. Afghan women are not allowed to vote or partake in politics as Muslim culture defines.

The introduction of female troops in Afghan grounds allowed Afghan women to create a political agenda in agreement with local governments and military. The Army organises weekly "shura's" as they are called, so that female troops can resolve issues with local women and make medical checkups.

The operation was crucial not only to give the women of Afghanistan a voice, but also extract key information to the progress of Operation Herrick.
